for Saxophone Quartet
5'30"
lowkey is a piece meditating on the idea of cringe culture and the desire to always appear cool, collected, and holistically lowkey. this manifests in many ways in the current cultural zeitgeist, one of which is the desire to apply a nihilistic, nonchalant veneer to life, never appearing to care too much or try too hard for fear of being labelled “cringe.” the piece explores these ideas, keeping things cool and level-headed at first before a sudden outburst brings a range of emotions to the surface as the piece reflects maintaining the façade while experiencing strong emotions, passions, and the beautiful daily messiness of being human.
